It’s Conch Season People!

Whew… that was quite the shutdown. No need to go into detail but yeah, we all know… COVID-19. Thankfully we planned and got our shit together and Belize has reopened to tourism!!! Yay!! If you wanna check out details on that, the BTB has a page detailing protocols and what not.. click here for that info.

You didn’t come here for that, nope you came for CONCHS!! Belize picked a GREAT time to reopen because it also marked the opening of the Conch Season in Belize. I always feel like Forest Gump when Conch season rolls around as I start thinking of all the ways to eat conchs. Conch Soup, Conch Fritters, Grill Conch, Fry Conch, Stew Conch, Rice & Beans with Jerk Conch, Conch Ceviche, oooooh yeah! The wonderful thing about all this is that you can find many of these all over Belize. Seriously! Just about anywhere you go, there will be someone cooking up a Conch dish to your liking.

I have some fav spots to get my Conch cravings and one I found about recently after flipping through the pages of Fifty Big Experiences on Ambergris Caye by Rebecca Coutant. Her fav was from El Fogon so for sure I had to go check that out for myself…. and YUMMM!! They also have a tangy sauce that goes well with it.

One of my favs comes from Chef Sean Kuylen. He does mostly catering right now but if you ever got the chance to try his conch fritters, DO IT!

Another way to enjoy Conch is from Conch Soup which Belizeans say is “good for your back”. That is a rabbit hole we not going down right now, but for sure Conch Soup is one of those feel good meals that make you wanna sleep after.

With Belize now open for tourism, where are you gonna go to get your Conchs fix? See you in the next post and great to be back to talking about this beautiful country.
